How Allstate calculated the rankings

The report analyzed property-damage claim frequency across the 200 most populous U.S. cities using claims reported from January 2023 through December 2024. The national benchmark was one collision every 10.86 years. Allstate says its policies represent roughly 10% of U.S. auto policies.

Behavioral information such as phone use, speeding, hard braking and nighttime driving was added as context, but it did not determine the city rankings. Allstate also states that the report itself is not used to set auto rates.

Does living in a safer city guarantee cheap car insurance?

No. Location and local claim trends can affect price, but an insurer may also consider driving history, age, vehicle, annual mileage, coverage, deductibles, household drivers and other permitted rating factors.

“Jacksonville ranks well, so why is my auto insurance still expensive?”

A citywide average cannot describe an individual driver or ZIP code. Repair costs, theft, storm losses, liability exposure and personal rating factors still matter. Use the ranking as evidence that safer behavior helps—not as a promised discount.

Four habits that lower risk wherever you drive

  • Put the phone away before the vehicle moves.
  • Leave space so routine traffic does not become hard braking.
  • Reduce speed, especially at night and in heavy rain.
  • Review who drives each household vehicle and keep policy information accurate.

Belkys combines a personalized coverage review with access to multiple available carrier options. Drivers also receive clear explanations in English or Spanish from a local Florida agency—useful for families who want to understand liability, PIP, uninsured motorist and deductibles rather than simply accept the first price.

Questions drivers ask

“Can a telematics app lower my premium?”

Some carrier programs can affect pricing or discounts, but rules differ. Ask what data is collected, which behaviors are measured and whether participation can also increase the rate.

“Should I lower coverage because accidents are less frequent here?”

No city is accident-free. Coverage should reflect your financial exposure and vehicle, not only a city ranking.
