2026 rate relief at a glance

Florida regulators reported several examples: USAA lowered rates by 7%; Allstate decreased rates by 7% for more than 171,000 drivers; AAA’s three approved decreases totaled 15%; and State Farm requested a recent 10% decrease after prior reductions. GEICO said more than 700,000 Florida customers would receive relief beginning in April 2026.

Progressive separately reported nearly $1 billion in credits to eligible policyholders, while State Farm announced a Florida dividend of nearly $533 million, averaging $173 per vehicle. A credit, dividend and rate decrease are not interchangeable, so drivers should ask which one applies to them.

Rate decrease, credit or dividend: know the difference

Rate decrease
Changes the pricing framework used for eligible policies, but individual outcomes still vary.
Credit
Usually reduces a bill or returns an amount under defined eligibility and timing rules.
Dividend
A distribution to qualifying policyholders; it does not necessarily change the future base rate.

This distinction matters to anyone searching for cheap car insurance in Florida. A one-time credit can make this year look attractive while the renewal, liability limits or deductibles tell a different long-term story.

Who should compare auto insurance now?

  • Families with two or more vehicles.
  • Parents adding a young driver.
  • Drivers whose renewal stayed flat or increased despite the market trend.
  • People who moved within Florida or now drive fewer miles.
  • Customers who have not reviewed liability limits in more than a year.

“I saw a 15% cut, so another company should beat my price by 15%.”

Not necessarily. The percentage is not a universal discount and carrier eligibility differs. The correct test uses the same drivers, vehicles, limits, deductibles and effective date across every quote.

Do not trade away protection to manufacture a lower price

A quote can look dramatically cheaper because it removed uninsured motorist coverage, increased deductibles or reduced liability limits. That is not a true rate comparison.

Belkys offers a side-by-side review of available carriers and explains the differences in plain English or Spanish. Customers gain both a broader market comparison and a local point of contact who can help them understand the policy before a claim—not just an online checkout screen.

Before you switch

“Can I cancel as soon as I find a lower quote?”

First confirm the new policy is issued and effective. Avoid any lapse, even for one day. Then coordinate cancellation and verify whether the former carrier owes or charges any balance.

“Will every driver receive a refund?”

No. Credits and dividends apply only under each carrier’s rules. Never send a fee or banking information in response to an unsolicited refund message; contact the carrier or your agent through a verified channel.
